BetterCalc

by jay.packer

A Widget calculator that actually works! BetterCalc uses a little logic so that things like 80.57 - 50.57 - 30 actually equal 0, instead of something like -7.1E15.

The Widget is also highly customizable, so that you can change its size and colors to suit your taste.

A new version, 1.0.5 should be on it's way as soon as Yahoo! publishes it. It fixes input problems on the Mac and the decimal issue reported below.

Oops! Wow, do I feel stupid! It's supposed to be ctrl-V for paste, not ctrl-P. (An easy fix though).

I don't have a Mac, but would love to solve these problems for those that do. I'm going to get on the Konfab forums later today requesting mac testers, so if you'd like to help out, look for me there.

Thank you for reporting this bug on decimal input. I'll look into it. (It turns out it's harder than you might think because I have to decide when to accept and not accept decimal input.)

I don't believe I ever claimed it was the only calc widget to accept keyboard input. (If I did, I never intended to). It is, as far as I'm aware, the only calc widget that doesn't suffer for javascript floating point errors. I easily could be unaware of others, but when I had looked a year More

On Macintosh, the KB ShortCut for paste is listed as Ctrl P. That does not work, but Ctrl V does. However, the normal convention on Macintosh is to use command C for Copy and command V for Paste. The numeric keys don't work at all.

    Nice, but not unique.

Nice calculator. However, it would be wrong to say that this is the only "kalc" widget to have keyboard input or to overcome the floating point quirks of javascript. Nor would it be correct to say that it was the first with those features.

Also, as a way of helping you debug the widget, try the following key sequence:
    5 * .25 = .3 * 3 =
The result of the second calculation should be 0.9, but the widget gets confused with the second press of the decimal key.

    Anyway, nice work so far.
