it's also used for counting the number of cars driving by you over a specified period of time, or perhaps how many people showed up to your booth if you're a trade show exhibitor. :-)

In sciences, we use this kind of counter to count cells under the microscope, using a cell counting chamber (Malassez chamber). It is useful to determine the cell concentration of a cell culture.

nice: any way to have it count mouse clicks anywhere on the screen? WOuld be very useful for counting stuff on images. What about a mac version? Thanks!

These kinds of counters are usually used for things like counting lots of people in a crowd or something similar. It makes it a whole lot easier to just push the button every time you see a new person instead of having to think about counting them up.
