Microsoft Office 2007 introduces a new file format for Word called .docx. Unfortunately, users of previous versions of Word cannot open these files. This Widget interfaces with a free service available at http://docx-converter.com to convert your Word 2007 .docx files to standard HTML you can view.

Microsoft has a compatibility pack for Office 2000-2003 that allows users who haven't upgraded to '07 to still read/write these new "open" formats. The download link is below.

I had a beta (2) version of Microsoft Office 2007 and had a GCSE essay saved as a docx, and couldn.t retrieve it. Thankfully I found your widget, before converting the file to a .zip and extracting the text little by little, I assume thats how it works, converts to zip and extracts text.
