DrawDemo

by Merlin

DrawDemo is a simple drawing Widget, somewhat like a whiteboard or blackboard. With it, you can draw rectangles/squares/triangles, ellipses/circles and lines. The images can be colorized, rotated, dragged, zoomed and deleted. The canvas can be exported and re-imported. You can also drag and drop image files onto the canvas and most drawn objects, and manipulate them with the drawing tools.

DrawDemo also has many of the features of WebImages and of ImageView. With it you can download images ont More

Tim Romero: In version 1.2 (to appear soon), I have implemented your suggestions for drawing lines and doing rotation. I've not used the actual shapes for rectangles and ellipses (although that could be done quite easily) because I find the hollow rectangular box much easier to place accurately. There's not much to be done about the smearing until they fix the Widget Engine. Version 1.2 has features from WebImages and ImageView as well as text objects and new text and image property sheets, which give more control over the text and image objects.

Cougarmint: The type of freehand drawing widget you describe has been tried - search for Chalk Board in the forums. It turns out not to be very practical because of the very large number of dot images that have to be created. That's basically why I opted for having simple shapes that can be held as single images. These shapes can be constructed by stretching squares and circles. Triangles (other than right-angled and equilateral triangles) require a lot more work (and more trigonometry).
