Earthquakes

The Earthquakes Widget shows a world map with the latest earthquake information from USGS. Earthquakes are shown as circles, with a larger circle indicating a larger earthquake. Quakes within the last day are shown in yellow, those within the last week are shown in green. Right-click (or Ctrl-click on OS X) allows you to zoom in or out and open the USGS earthquake information page for any earthquake. Earthquake information is automatically refreshed about every three hours.

April 13, 2006 · version 1.1 ScullyInteresting widget. It works great. I never realized how many earthquakes occur each day. Also, I got earthquake info even before CNN reported it on a large one that took place not too long ago in South Africa, 7.2 I think. Only problem is I'm addicted to it, have to check it out each time I check my email! :-) Thanks for the widget.

January 31, 2006 · version 1.0 Greg HewgillIt looks like the USGS changed their web site today (see http://earthquake.usgs.gov). If you are having connection difficulties, it is probably related to their web site changes. For those who are curious, the widget gets its data from the RSS 2.0 feeds at http://earthquakes.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/catalogs/ (past 7 days, either the M 2.5+ or the M 5+ lists depending on your minimum magnitude selected in the widget preferences). The widget updates its display approximately every three hours.
