EjectMe!
Per request in the forum, I put together this Widget to place an "eject" button on your desktop. It will open (and if motorized, close) your optical drive. You can name it, set the drive letter, tailor to your liking! Duplicate the .widget file to have more than one on your desktop! To move, hover over edge of widget and drag by the border when it appears.

Just an update to my previous message. I over-installed another download of this widget and found that some support files were also downloaded at the same time. So it's possible that there are some compatibility issues with the latest version of the widget engine.
Anyway, EjectMe! now works fine on my Inspiron 6400.

I have this widget installed on my Dell Inspiron 6000 with a Sony DW-D56A DVD drive and it works very well.
However, I also have this widget installed on my Dell Inspiron 6400 with a Sony DW-Q58A DVD drive and it doesn't work.
In both cases the drive does eject using the 'My Computer' icon for the DVD drive.

November 16, 2007 · version V 1.2.1 LIFT uPerfect ! I don't have to keep fiddling around on my laptop to find the hidden eject button. "They" should really place the darn button in a more accessible spot. Till the world becomes perfect this will do just fine.
