I can add to my previous comment that it's possible (as a temporary expedient) to use Harry Whitfield's Image Display widget to display the TOA lightning data. If you enter the URL "http://www.blitzortung.net/image_d_fr.png" into the image display preferences, you may be able to get a TOA image which can then be updated manually.

This widget will no longer work because Blitzortung.de ceased supplying the DF (Direction Finding) method of lightning detection to their website last week. They have now switched over to the much more accurate TOA (Time Of Arrival) method which they have been developing over the last year. TOA images started appearing on the Blitzortung.de website in May, I believe. I'm able to read quite a bit of German, and it's clear the network is no longer maintaing the old DF data.
This Widget (and any others using the DF data) will need a complete redesign.

Since a few days it cant connect. also another program "lightningviewer" doesnt connect anymore. there was an status text a few days again, which shortly comes on the map. i couldnt read it full, but it says something like tao ortung will be changed.
that happened to a time, we have an record year of lightnings. if this happened to another time it will not be so bad. would be great if you can solve the problem, thanks.
