...The drawback of this method is that each time you open HAL9000's preferences the time (therefore, the string in the pref file) will be changed to 120 seconds. So you'll have to repeat the steps or simply don't open HAL's preferences window.
And if HAL doesn't speak it may be that he is set to be in "Konspose Only" Window Level mode. To speak, HAL needs to be visible, so it is best to set him to "Desktop" mode, I guess.

Great idea and great widget! Love it! Now someone should make a "Solaris" widget as well.
For all those that want HAL to speak less frequently:
On MAC:
1. Close Hal9000 Widget
2. Locate the file named HAL9000.widget.plist, it should be in your Home Directory > Library > Preferences > Konfabulator
3. Open the file in TextEdit
4. Locate the line: <key>Pref-silenceDuration</key>
5. The next one will be something like <string>120</string>
6. Now edit …the number between the <string> tags according to your preferences e.g. make it look like <string>3600</string>, if you want HAL9000 to speak every two hours or 3600 seconds.
7. Save the file and quit TextEdit.
8. Open the HAL9000.widget and hopefully HAL becomes less talkative ;-)
ON PC:
Probably something similar, just open the Registry Editor (Be careful, not to mess something up. If you don't now how, then don't do it.) and find the appropriate keys.
The drawback of this method is that each time you open HAL9000'sMore

If youre using windows, rename it zip and unzip it. you can modify it yourself to suit your needs. Im still looking through it, but im sure theres a way to make him speak less frequently, and if you look in the resources folder, you can see where the audio is stored, and if you look in the .js file you can add the name of the sounds to the array. have fun!
nice widget by the way!
