suggesting a way around the potential IPR minefield. The companies are now just starting to focus more on small audio clips etc due to their use as ringtones, and the potential there for exploitation of existing Intellectual Property (aka money for old rope) is huge. Why run the risk when there's such a simple work-around. Hey it could come with some sample sounds of someone imitating HAL with a funny voice - That would be parody an therefore protected under US law (the ejse.co…m domain is registered in Tampa Florida, and the server is hosted in Chicago?). In fact I think I'd prefer a comedy voice (or choice of voices) - Just think about a "Gangsta", "Hilbilly", or "West Country Yokel" version of HAL. Are there any talented vocal artists that would like to submit some recordings to ejse for inclusion?
I personally had to ask a company for their permission to use some of the IPR in a widget I created - They gave permission within 48hrs (Insisting that I added a note toMore

Just Google for :
"warner brothers" "cease and desist"
and see what you get with that simple query. The big media conglomerates are very picky when it comes to their IPR. I'd hate for one of them to come over "all heavy" on the gallery and cause pixoria to stop supporting it.
We're not talking about one small individual clip here. The solution of not including the clips themselves, but letting the users get their own (Which isn't exactly diffi…cult!) I thought was simple enough to implement and would remove the problem.
The size of the market is irrelevant. It could be argued that the more "niche" a market is, the more valuable it is as there isn't much space for competition.
The "not for financial gain" is also irrelevant. This is especially pertinant as the widget creator is listed as being "ejse.com", and not Edward J. Stembler - It's a blatant form of advertising for the site and the services that can be provided. I'm not saying that that makes it bad - justMore

honestly i don't think WB is really going to get pissed off that someone made a widget (a niche market) and distributed it without financial gain. it's ridiculous to assume that WB would give half a damn.
an aside, it will only stay open for me for a few minutes and then mysteriously closes on its own.
