Cool. It would be super if you had a slider to scale HAL (I'd like him smaller) and also could choose to make him silent and/or increase the wait time between speech to hours. I'd like to leave him on my desktop but his constant yammering is a bit much! Thanks.

as an aside, I would love to use this widget. I do think it looks cool. Perhaps a solution would be to have the user specify a folder where it picks random sound files from. The user could then individually be responsible for obtaining any recordings for their own use. The same functionality would be there.

If the copyright owners (I guess it's Warner Brothers now, but you'd have to check) don't mind, then they can give permission (if asked). It is very important that copyright issues are observed here. If Widget developers want their copyright acknowledged - they should observe the same. ejse.com do state in the javascript file "This software is freeware; distribute as a whole freely. Do not re-distribute individual resources or units separately." - But they are distrib…uting wav files that the do not attribute to the copyright holder - I do have to admit to making the assumption that permission hasn't been granted based on this.More

I seriously doubt that the current owners of the copyrights to the Space Odyssey (sp?) series will mind a little widget named after their computer.

Love the effect; great for background ambiance....now the next step is to give it some intelligence...the sequel should say, "just a reminder, its tuesday", or "good morning user, looks like you are doing great work today." Maybe tie it into the database somehow and have it start reminding you of appointments. The ultimate will be when you can ask it things like "how is my stock doing", and it checks the internet and responds, "certainly, its up 2 points, etc...
