Jenerator

by David C. Zentgraf

Are you learning Japanese? Then this Widget is for you. The Jenerator displays one entry at a time from the EDICT dictionary, helping you to memorise all these Kanji step by step.

Included is a small selection of Jim Breen's EDICT file, suitable for beginners. You can use your own dictionary file as well, should work fine with Chinese, Korean or almost any other language. Instructions are included in the widget.

[Windows users: You'll need to have support for east-Asian languages installed. (Control Panel : Regional and Language Options : Languages)]

    I love your widget!
If I can make a suggestion: It would be nice to add pronouncation keys for Japanese and Chinese so we can also be able to say them as well as reading them :)
The problem with me is, that I have to know how to say the word before I can learn how to write it.

    Thank you!

Great tool. I have one question though. What does "show only in heads up display" do?

this is great ;D but it'd be really nice if there was a way to have more than one reading display -- lots of kanji have multiple readings.

I love this widget, but some of the readings are incorrect. I'm looking at one right now: "undouba" is usually read "undoujo." It seems like the onyomi readings are preferred over the kunyomi that are usually used. I've run into this several times, and verified it with my Japanese wife. Luckily, she can help me out if I'm not familiar with the word, but everyone might not be so lucky.
