I figured out a fix for this widget's bad behavior in Konfabulator 1.7. The crash is occurring due to an ASCII character 168 (at-least thats what BBEdit sees it as) that appears as the 5th character on line 7 of the Mail Check.kon. Removing this character and saving the file fixes it.

To do this:

1. Right Click/CTRL Click on the Mail Check Star.widget and select Show Package Contents

2. Open the Contents folder, inside that will be 4 items, one of which will be Mail Check.kon

3. Open Ma…il Check.kon in a Text editor

4. Delete the 5th Character on Line 7.

5. Save the file to its original location with its original name.

- The errant character is an invisible, if you are not viewing invisibles you will need to delete the 5th space on the line 7, this appears prior to "2003 Tony Arnold" in the comment

- Obviously this is much easier if you are viewing invisibles and line numbers. As an alternative you can delete the entire section of line 7 that appears prior to More

I really love this widget. Its actually what got me to finally buy Konfabulator. It unfortunately does not work in Konfabulator 1.7. On launch it produces the following errors:

1) A system messages from Konfabulator reading:"Cannot run Widget in /Users/<me>/Documents/Widgets/Mail Check Star.widget/Contents/Mail Check.kon The file does not appear to contain a valid Widget Definition.

2) A Konfabulator error reading:"Konfabulator 1.7 on YEAR-M-D TIME in GMT -500 Mail Check Star… 2.0 XML Parse Error: Error reading Element value. (Mail Check.kon:Line 7)

Hope this helps get this puppy up and running again.

Yup. My favorite mail check widget, only it's not working now. 1.7 breaks it.
