National Rail (UK)

by Jon Reades

The National Rail Widget will help you keep track of arrivals and departures (in real time) to/from any station covered by the www.nationalrail.co.uk Web site.

The Widget will automatically refresh itself every 10 minutes, but you can force a refresh by clicking on the text "Refresh Trains". This refresh cannot exceed once every two minutes by request of the RTTI web site admins.

To find your station, click on "Lookup Station" and use the drop-downs to navigate to the right More

My 'to dos' for version 2.6 are:

    To dos:
    1. Make station lookup available to spawned widgets (this is an 'expensive' operation and it's preferrable to just pass on the details if you've already looked it up once).

    2. Cache station lookup for a weekly refresh. Since new stations come online/go offline fairly infrequently, there's no reason not to store the lookup locally.

For version 3.0 I'd like to add:

    3. Exceptional events -- would like to be able to More

Just posted 2.4 (should show up in the next day or two) with a fix to the spawning code so that you can now create spawns of spawns properly.

I also fixed a 'logical' error -- I had assumed that "No Report" was basically the same as "On Time", but thanks to David I've discovered that this is not the case. The widget now correctly displays "No Data" if it doesn't know what the status of your train is.

Also improved the Track/Time presentation - More

Yep -- the site has changed again. Now it's the stations page that has changed.

Before, they used to force a filter by first-letter at least, so my widget would ask what the letter you wanted to start with was and then would go retrieve the entire list for that letter.

A quick look suggests that they now allow you to view *all* stations at once and that the layout has been updated.

I also received an email from National Rail informing me of another change that they have planned for some More

Bill: I'd be pretty sure it's not a Konfabulator problem. Most likely is that National Rail have changed (some of) the web pages slightly and the widget is no longer picking out the data correctly. There' nothing to be done until Jon has time to look at it. I've sent him an email as he suggested.
