NPR Addict

For you NPR addicts out there, you can use this Widget to select an NPR program by date to stream via Windows Media or RealPlayer on Windows or Mac. There are several other public radio streams and archives that are added over time (e.g., CarTalk, A Prairie Home Companion, and others).

Note: this Widget does not play the streams, in simply invokes your audio player to do so.

Ooops, 0.6 has an annoying bug for those who have RealPlayer installed on Windows... It pops up a dialog saying that you don't have it installed. I uploaded version 0.6a on 8/23/2006 to fix this. As usual, you can also download immediately from http://www.evolutedesign.com/html/widgets.html. Or you can just wait until it propogates to this site and 0.6 notifies you of any update.

I uploaded version 0.6 on 8/18/2006. As usual, you can also download immediately from http://www.evolutedesign.com/html/widgets.html.

Key features:
- Automatically checks for updates.
- Clicking on the icon (in the upper left) will open a web page that is specific to the program that is currently selected.
- For undated program streams, date selection is no longer presented.
- Checks for unavailable program (when RealMedia NPR program has not yet been posted).
- Check for installation of RealPlayer or Windows MediaPlayer (prompt to download player).

I uploaded version 0.5h on 8/4/2006. As usual, you can also download immediately from http://www.evolutedesign.com/website/widgets.html. If you occasionally get a dialog prompt that a file is busy and cannot be deleted, this, newer version will circumvent that. Sorry all, but the prompt, though annoying and confusing, is innocuous (part of the weirdness in deleting temporary files).

The next release will check for updates automatically... stay tuned!

It is very unlikely that the problem is due to the widget since the widget actually has nothing to do with playback; it simply causes the start of the player to play the stream.
