NPR Addict

For you NPR addicts out there, you can use this Widget to select an NPR program by date to stream via Windows Media or RealPlayer on Windows or Mac. There are several other public radio streams and archives that are added over time (e.g., CarTalk, A Prairie Home Companion, and others).

Note: this Widget does not play the streams, in simply invokes your audio player to do so.

I live in Mexico City. The NPR widget is a welcome addition to my daily entertainment. I look forward to further additions and improvements.

I uploaded version 0.4b on 7/21/2006. As usual, you can also download immediately from http://www.evolutedesign.com/website/widgets.html.

I took the opportunity, by request, to add "A Prairie Home Companion" (for better or worse). I'm still looking into "This American Life" (thanks, Keith); "Car Talk" will come in a future version.

Changes:
- Another late night, another typo bug slipped thru, sorry.
- Added "A Prairie Home Companion"
- Properly updates the year range for a pre-selected program.

Bill - it looks like This American Life streams are available from http://www.thislife.org/pages/archives/archivemain.html

They actually link to playlists, which are a little hard to deconstruct into the respective MP3 pieces that end up looking like http://wbez-tal.streamguys.us:8010/content/289.mp3

Thanks for the rating, Mongo. I would love to add "This American Life" but I could not find a URL to stream it from. I think they are only supporting paid Audible.com online formats.

People seem to have a love/hate opinion about "Car Talk". They don't archive streams like NPR and others do, so it has been a bit of a trick to support it. I do have it running on a "future version" of my widget. The good thing about choice is that you can choose which programs … More

Nice! Wait Wait, great! Fresh Air, bitchin'. But PLEASE ignore those requests for Car Talk and try to post This American Life instead. The way they laugh at their own jokes sets my teeth on edge. Just a thought.
