Site Sight!
A specialized browser that you start off with a URL which can show all images at that location and all locations spanned by that HTML page. Loads of preferences are available for defining the crawling options (how to traverse links), retrieval options (what images to capture), operational options (how to pace the Widget, autodownload, etc), display options (layout, thumbnail size, etc), and skinning options.

1.1 - Fix textarea issue with Yahoo Widget Engine 3.0.
Rid destination filename of all illegal filename characters before saving image to disk.
Require Yahoo Widget Engine 3.0.
1.2 - Fix issue with virtual directory where site URL is entered with final /.

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to catch a virus by downloading jpg, png, or gif files, as there is no mechanism that *standard* image viewers can use to execute code from virus writers. It would be possible for a virus writer to write a jpg viewer to inspect, say, the comments of a jpg and execute code when viewing the image. But that you mean that you have to install *his* software first. The only image viewer used in Site Sight! is embedded in the Yahoo Widget Engine, and to the very best of my knowledge, it is completely safe.
