My initial thoughts for this Widget were to check the HTTP status code and respond accordingly, but one is limited by the object in Konfabulator only returning the response from the site (i.e. the page). Version 1.1 improved on my initial concept of checking for the HTML starting tag to also accept any file returned as valid. So, you should get a positive response if something is returned. I will have to test this when using FTP to confirm.

The whole purpose o…f this Widget is to see if your Web site is up and running. Due to the stateless nature of the Web the Widget must continually request the target file to see if it is still there. Unfortunately this means that any counter that only displays requests for a given page rather than unique user sessions will increment. Counters that count unique user sessions (like your reporting tool probably is) should only indicate the initial request from SiteStatus. If a session’s life span is 24 hours then More

Since you check for index.html or default.asp (maybe others as well) I can't monitor FTP-sites or other with this tool I can only check websites on any port.
One huge problem that I just discovered is that this tool checkes the sites every minute which creates a hit on my counters every minute.
I have left my work PC on 24/7 this week creating a couple of thousand additional hits.

I can't recommend this tool unless you don't have a counter or if you want tremendous amount of hits….
My tracking tool didn't indicate these hits though.

My suggestion is a tool that probes any port (user specifying) on any URL/IP (user specifying) and based on response or not it will indicate if it is active or not.

I could very well be wrong, but you should be able to specify the port in the URL you type as a preference for a site.

I just saw that you look for html and htm docs. and don't probe a port.
