Thanks for the info. I'm glad it is working. A few questions about what you did:
- "several reinstalls" - reinstalling just Yahoo! Widget Engine or something more?
- "cleared the registry" - how did you do this? With regedit? Some other way? Did this procedure negatively affect any of your other installed applications?
- "Application Data cache" - where is that and how did you clear it?

It does sound like the problem has something to do with …the registry updates done when Yahoo! Widget Engine is installed. That makes some sense because the COM command uses the registry to connect to YWE and that seems to be the line that is failing.

OK, more data.
I needed to login to Yahoo mail the other day but got a Security alert error when trying to sign in. After searching the web and trying several reinstalls, I manually cleared the registry and my Application Data cache after another uninstall. When I reinstalled, with no other widgets yet running, I tried the Widgets widgets and it worked!

Likely a registry setting?

Anyway, it works now and I am happy to give 4 stars

Thanks for the debug listing. It looks like you are seeing the same error that ssadams1111 has reported. This is an error I have not yet been able to duplicate, and since I use XP SP2 myself I know that the widget can work on XP. Others using XP have also been using it without this error. The error seems to have something to do with COM, which is used to close the widgets. If I can come up with a non-COM based alternative or can duplicate and correct the error I'll update the w…idget and post a message here. Until then, I'm afraid your system isn't compatible with The Widgets Widget, but I don't know why. Sorry. More

Try using Debug Mode as described in the comments below to see if there is a more detailed error message. I don't think it should matter where you are running the widget from, but I always run mine from the My Documents/My Widgets folder and haven't tested running them from somewhere else. This doesn't mean it is a problem, just that I don't test for it.
