TimeTracker

by Carl

You enter the name of the task you are working on and press the button. Press the button again when you have finished working on the task.

The Widget updates a daily XML or CSV file. The file stores a list of the tasks you've worked on, and how long you worked on each one for. You can import the timesheet files into an application like Excel, or write your own script to convert the files into another format.

The information stored in the timesheet files are: task name, length in milliseconds, length in minutes, start time, stop time.

You can also predefine your own task names in the preferences so you don't have to type the task name in every time. These appear in the context menu of the text area (on windows, right click when the text cursor appears). You set the task name by selecting one of the predefined tasks.

I created this Widget because I am notoriously bad at doing timesheets and I find most time tracking applications too complicated for my purposes.

I wish it could tell me how minutes are passed since I started this task without closing it and going to csv file.

This is a good improvement that could be done to this widget by author.

Excellent widget. I liked it so much that I couldn't wait for the next version and I hacked this one to make it more usefull and intuitive.

    Here are my new features:
    More customisations,
You can swap tasks when they are running,
The task list automatically gets updated,
The task list displays the last 15 tasks (customisable),
After typing a task, pressing enter starts it,
Added reminder when the day starts,
Automatically stop a current task at the end of the day,
Changed the start/stop button to be clearer,
When the widget is closed, it automcatically stops the current task,
    ...

I have change the minor version number from 3.1 to 3.2

    Here is the widget http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/30613/TimeTracker-widget.html

Or you can email me to get it at franckyinuk[at]yahoo.fr

To install it you will need to:
    - download the widget from the link above. It is a free hosting site so you have to wait 30 secondes and then press on the "Download file now" button
    - once saved remove "[Megafileupload]" from the widget name
    - Right click on the Yahoo widget manager icon, select "Open widget" and select the file that you have downloaded

Hopefully Carl won't be to upset about me for hacking his widget before the new release came out. And sorry for this long text which appears like a big block after being reformatted by yahoo.

I love this widget. Great Job.
One request. Anyway you can have the option to write to a single csv instead of writing to multiple csv 's or each day you use it? That would be great. Thanks.

Thanks for a very useful application. I have two feature requests:
    1. I'd like to be able to display the reminder after a much longer period - in my case, 8 hours so that the tracker can tell me when I've finished work for the day.
    2. I often return to tasks I've previously worked on, but because the tasks contain a number, I can't enter the entire task name as a predefined task. If the right-click menu could display the 10 most recent tasks, that would be a nice time saver.
    Thanks.
