Ultimate WOTD

by William

This Widget grabs the Word of the Day from multiple sources, and provides the pronunciation(s), definition(s), usage examples, etymology, and even audio pronunciations when available! It also provides a link back to the source's webpage. This is a great way to increase your vocabulary, especially if you are preparing for the SAT or PSAT!

Thanks for explaining how the update works. It turns out that my system didn't recognize the widget extension so it added ".zip". After I removed the .zip, I could install the update. Thank you for not giving up on me!

Dave - You don't need to restart the widget to update the words; every time you click the "Next" or "Prev" buttons or restore the widget from its minimized mode, it loads the information anew. If you want to "refresh" the widget, you can just hit "Next" and then "Prev" to reload the word your looking at. Or, minimize the widget when you're done viewing it for the day, and then maximize when you want to look at it again. (Note: Wordsmith.org only changes on weekdays - it remains the same over the weekend.)

I love it! I wish this would have existed years ago. A great way to enrich my vocabulary. Thanks!
One suggestion for improvement. I leave my computer running 24/7. It seems that the words do not change unless I close and restart the widget. It would be great to have a daily option to change words.

Gail - What program are you using to extract it? I'm not sure I understand... you shouldn't have to "extract" anything. When you clicked "Download" you should have gotten a file called Ultimate_WOTD.widget and all you have to do is double click that file to open it in the Yahoo Widget Engine. (The procedure might be slightly different on a Mac, but it still shouldn't require extracting or decompressing anything.)

Thanks for your response. I downloaded other widgets without any problem. I tried re-downloading the update and when I try to extract the zipped file, it asks for a password. Anyone else encountering this problem?
