Ultimate WOTD

by William

This Widget grabs the Word of the Day from multiple sources, and provides the pronunciation(s), definition(s), usage examples, etymology, and even audio pronunciations when available! It also provides a link back to the source's webpage. This is a great way to increase your vocabulary, especially if you are preparing for the SAT or PSAT!

Wordsmith.org has changed it's structure slightly the past two days, by putting the week's theme before the word. :( If they don't revert to their usual format soon, I'll try to incorporate a workaround into the upcoming version.

Cerebrus: I'm so glad you like it! It's great to know there are people out there who appreciate it. The Windows 2K issue was really getting me down.

Everyone: Don't forget you can minimize the widget by double clicking! (I forgot to update the about-box btw, so I think it still says 1.0. heh!)

Ok, I realized I had to "add" that line, while I had been looking for a line like : <scrollbar>true</scrollbar> to change instead!
Disabling scrollbars means that we can't read the text completely if it extends beyond the widget area (atleast not in Win2K) What a pity !
Anyway, I got it to work finally. Thanks for a great widget !

Well, William, Believe it or not, I downloaded Konfabulator, because I wanted to use your widget. (Call me a word freak !). Only later, I downloaded some other widgets.
But the tragedy is that I'm running Win2K and it locks up my system with the Hourglass showing. (100% CPU usage). I downloaded it again to make sure I had the latest version, but the problem still exists.
I read Nathan's trick below, but could not find any <scrollbar> item in the <textarea name="definitions More

moOK: How strange. Make sure the "Lock Window Positions" option is unchecked in the Preferences. (I don't know why it would be.) Also, you could try holding the Ctrl key (Command key on Mac) while you drag it with the mouse.
The audio is only available for the Merriam-Webster and Wordsmith feeds, and the Wordsmith feed isn't working this week, because the words have capital letters and spaces while the actual link doesn't. That will be fixed in 1.2
