UUID Vault

by Merlin

Widget authors have been asked to include UUIDs in their Widgets to enable built-in Widget update check. Now, the process of generating and using these UUIDs has become a whole lot simpler.

UUID Vault not only generates completely valid UUIDs, but it also allows you to easily keep track of which ones you've generated.

I did figure out how to manualy add a UUID for the first version, but think now that you can import them it, makes it alot easier.

willy: There is an updated version (1.0.17) in the Widget Test Ground Forum. This has a facility to import (old) UUIDs, which I hope you will find more convenient than editing the database file.

willy: As Ricky says, you could carefully edit the plain-text database file which is kept in the Widget's data folder. There is a snag - if you add anything but an ITU-T X.667 - type 1 UUID, you may see very odd UUID creation times in the tooltip. I'll put in a check for that in a future version. We'll also think about providing a better way of adding old UUIDs.

Art: That's odd. Whenever the Widget changes the database file (kept in the data folder), it re-reads the file and regenerates the display from the changed file. You should normally seen a one-second delay before the re-read is done. The delay is to be sure that the writeToFile has closed before the re-read is done. If that's not what you are seeing, please contact me privately.
