For this, the latest update to the Venice Webcam Widget "Ah, Venice" I have modified and added the f…ollowing functions:
- Changed the window size to conform to the most size of the majority of images - Updated the border images to fit the new window size, and added shadowing at the bottom - Created new opening splash window - Eliminated unnecessary "About" screen - Created image for the Dock (Yahoo Widgets 4.0 ) - Added XML code unique identifier (UUID) to aid in future updates
Additionally, and more importantly, I have updated the locations for the majority of webcams, enabling their use. I have also moved webcams now no longer in use to the "Defunct Webcams" list and moved those now in use back to their respective list.
The following webcams are now featured on the widget:
In and around Venice:
- Piazza San Marco (Saint Mark's Square) - Ponte Rialto (Rialto Bridge – over the Grand Canal) - Ponte Rialto, Alternate View (From Locanda Sturion Hotel) - San Toma (View of the Grand Canal from a vaporetto (waterbus) station) - Canale di Noale, Santo Fosca (Canal and small bridge in Venice) - Il Quatro Ponte (Calatrava) (The fourth, and newest, bridge over the Grand Canal – called the Calatrava Bridge) - Jesolo (Beach in the Venetian Lagoon)
In the Veneto Region around Venice:
- Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza - La Arena, Verona - La Basilica di St. Antonio, Padova (Padua) - Prato della Valle, Padova (Padua)
Please Note: These webcams may go down at any point and without notice.

This version of the Widget updates the web…cam locations from the previous one. As many noted, the Venetian municipal webcams went down in 2005 and needed to be restored. I've located the new locations of those webcams and updated the code. I also updated the preferences menu to include more this go around.
This includes a few webcams from the Veneto region surrounding Venice, including Padua and Jesolo.
Additionally, I noticed a few of the original webcams from Venice appear to no longer work, show nothing, or show an old image. I decided to leave these included in the webcam, but in their own 'Defunct Webcams' category, in the hopes that they will be restored at some point.
Also please note, as of this update, the webcam for the Basin of San Marco and the Grand Canal appears to be misaligned or pointed down at the pavement. The camera still works, so I am hoping it will be rearranged soon.
Thanks for checking it out. Let me know if I missed anything.
