Have one suggestion which I think will make it a much more powerful search tool : Let the user define several search providers and one default. Clicking the search glass opens a menu allowing the user to select the search provider whilst hitting Enter launches the default. (In effect something like the search box in IE7) However take it a step further by also assigning shortcuts for the search providers, eg. Alt+1 for the first, Alt+2 … More

It should react consequential when you press enter. Maybe you know what comes next but some may get confused. It should be an easy-to-use application with a core function.
