Won't display the Dow Jones, can't add it says it's already in the list. Takes multiple deletes to actually make a stock delete. Adding a new stock sometimes deletes existing ones. All around this tool needs a lot of work... right now it's not worth using, maybe if all the bugs are fixed it would be useful, but not the way it is.

The program has some kinks to work out. Also, ^DJI is not displayed

Just like everyone else mentioned. ^DJI periodically disappears for a long time. And adding/removing stocks just doesn't work right. Too bad the other Stock information program Yahoo provides just sucks.

I should have kept 2.7.2. DJI missing, problems removing stocks, and some searches are failing. For example, RST (Rosetta Stone, Inc.) could not be found in search. Also, stocks are now deleting themselves. At least give us back 2.7.2 for now. Thanks.

I am done waiting for Yahoo to fix this widget. I decided to figure it out on my own. While I was not able to extract the widget contents/resources from the .widget file, and so was unable to fix the widget's "Add Symbol" issue, I was able to find a work around for now. It involves adding data to a Name/Value pair in the registry, but is pretty straight forward.

Standard WARNING: you can wreck your machine if you carelessly edit its registry. There are plenty of how-to's …on the web about how to edit a registry Name/Value pair. Refer to them if you are not comfortable with registry editing, or do not know how.

The registry key at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\WidgetEngine\Widgets\Yahoo! Stock Ticker" holds a Name/Value pair named "userSymbolsPreference".

The Value is of the format "SYM*char*Display name*char*[repeat]". So, for example, after trying to add the symbol "^DJI" via the widget, that Value in the registry is "...*DJI.V*a*DAJIN RESOURCES CORP...".

In order to get this to display the symbol desired, simply update this part of the Value to be something like
"...*^DJI*a*Down Jones Industrial Average..."

Note: without the ellipses (periods), and without the quotes.

Then, close the Stock Ticker widget, and reopen it. Blam! ^DJI.

Granted, Yahoo should have at least tested the new release with the default symbols, but they clearly did not. Maybe next time. Anyway, enjoy.
