Zoomy Space Dock

by Mark Watkins

This Widget is total departure of the original Zoomy bar/docks and application launcher. I was working on some different programming styles and this is what came out. It is a fun dock style Widget with complete drag and drop capability to add icons. It is much simpler with less options that the prior docks.

To add icons, drop shortcuts or files or folders. It will ask you what to do from there.

i think it would be cool if when you clicked a bubble .. they "popped" , but i love it .. i got rid of all the icons on my desktop .. i can sit for hours and watch them float around

It is a very interesting concept isn't it? These things could totally replace a normal taskbar and menu system entirely. Wanted it ever since I saw the mockups there, they just look so fluid and unique.

Copy + Paste from text description:
"1) Custom dock location(menu options, placement similar to current kicker (dock 0% -100% across the screen - top, left, right, or bottom))
    2) Turn the ring(right click + drag, mouse wheel)
    3) Resize the ring (ctrl + mouse wheel, ctrl + a number for s More

Bob, Very interesting concept. The shortcuts would be easy, and the menu (I assume a kde type menu) can be generated pretty easy. There may be some issues with program running icons and what to do when they are clicked....I would have to think about it. I assume a mouse over with scroll wheel rotates the wheel, but couldn't tell from the concept images. If you want to learn to write widgets, just give it a try. It isn't as hard as people think. If I get going on something like this, I will let you know. I think I will definitely start a forum for these apps. -----Mark

Well, the bo honest, what I am really hoping you might have time for would be doing something like this mockup with your orbs: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=36985 . I would love a full suite of zoomy wheels - a menu, active applications, shortcut wheels... I think I could totally remove my taskbar, and never touch the start menu again. I wish I knew how to write widgets...
